Oh Divine! But Would You Wear this Hat? Who Carries It Best.. not "Carrie Bradshaw"
Orchid Hat by Uber Milliner Philip Treacy
Sarah Jessica Parker lives in my hood. I've seen her with her little boy, and during the day, she usually wears jeans or sweats, minimal makeup, and sneakers! When transformed into Carrie, she becomes a spirited fun fashionista with zero body fat and no fear of oddball mixes. Pat Field, the costumer of the show "Sex In the City" and now the upcoming film, told a mutual friend. "I dress the girls like gay men in New York!" Well, okay, not sure about pristine Charlotte, corporate Miranda, or Samantha, who seems more Hollywood Boulevard to me. But Carrie might fit the bill of resembling an Eighties club kid in glitter, minis, fringe, hair bands, and for the London premiere, a custom hat by famed Irish milliner Philip Treacy. It reminded me of a suspended green beetle.
Treacy, who has created toppers for couture, specifically Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel and Alexander McQueen for Givenchy, is incredibly gifted. He is adored by the English, who often wear his hats to weddings. A good deal of his more conservative styles fit UK nuptials. He's better known for his fedoras, and he astounds with his creations that recall birds of paradise, brilliant spider webs, or exotic flowers.
Treacy fits the kind of woman who wants to make a statement at the party. She's the one who walks into a room and the crowd gasps or at least whispers about her chutzpah. She creates herself into a being, something ethereal, complex. Dare to talk to her.
Beyond Sarah Jessica Parker, who played a role for the British premiere, I investigated who else, off the runway, could be considered a Philip Treacy kind of gal. The late Isabella Blow, an editor, stylist, and the woman who bought Alexander McQueen's first collection from Central St. Martin's for five thousand quid, was his muse. (Blow, who fought bipolar disorder and severe depression poisoned herself last year.)
Still, I found some other notables in my search: Iman, Grace Jones, and Debbie Harry, who generally does not wear hats, was shot once in one. Harry, better known as Blondie selected her Treacy -- a print of ex model Bianca Jagger -- from a collection he did five years ago dedicated to Andy Warhol. (See pic.) One femme fatale who never leaves home without a Treacy hat is Boy George. He could give Blondie a few pointers on the charm of it. And now there's Jessica Parker.
If I see her around town, I'll ask her what's become of that big green beetle hat. I bet it ends up in her son James Wilke's toy chest. Quite an expensive toy since Treacy's creations start at close to $200 into the thousands.

So glad you posted on this-I love hats and was immediately intrigrued when I saw SJP sporting her Philip Treacy hat in London! I would say that her green beetle hat may end up in hubby Matthew's closet. Treacy is a creative genious!
I'm hysterical that you think Matthew might nick the "BEATLE." YOU NEVER KNOW!!! I've heard round the grapevine that he definitely is heterosexual. That said, given his Broadway performances, he might also have a secret love of lingerie. So funny....
Check out two Brits who are cool hunting all over the globe.... Mr. and Mrs. Smith... just like Brad and Angie when they had to sneak into hotels under fake names... Ooh, la, la...http://blog.mrand mrssmith.com
"It's never been more important for me to respect a president's ability to handle foreign policy and to be a good listener and an open negotiator. Those are qualities I didn't think about in the past, but now, it seems crucial to the success and even the survival of our nation. Also, I cannot endorse a president who does not support women's rights to the fullest possible extent." Faran http//:www.nylonm ag.com
Who is "Candy" with Anna Wintour in the CFDA photos? I guess it's true that the ugly kids in school get their revenge as grown ups in fashion. They are both "bark, bark!" You are kidding about them as fashion icons, right?
Candy Pratts Price is the Executive Style Director of Style.com. She just won the Eugenia Sheppard (CFDA) Award for fashion journalism. While Candy's not a writer, she's got an eagle eye as a market editor so deemed a trend maker. Fashion loves her because she makes or breaks "looks," as in collection pieces. OUCH! on the revenge comment...
Thanks Lollie! Do keep reading and spreading the word on the page. Re: the hats, Philip Treacy's creations are like luscious cherries on gorgeous cakes. Each one, one of a kind.
Glenn O'Brien, new co-Editorial Director of Interview is exceptionally talented. I have a lot of faith in his vision and looking forward to checking out the new issue in September.
Do I care about Madonna, how could you not! While I'm no slave to her rhythm she is a remarkable woman breaking all former generations rules for what a woman of 50 should act and look like. That being said, how much longer does she have to be our pop princess? Is it still cool to be wearing bodysuits with tights when you're 60??http://media.uber .com/images/60x45 .jpg
Merci Lucille! Je comprende. Tu t'en fou de la vie ici' mais quand meme, tu lis le page. Souvent je m'en fou de la vie ici' aussi. Beaucoup de la betisse! xo!
